Gary Sheffield on Mets; Sign Him?
By: Chris Caraballo @ 11:05 PM
Gary Sheffield was released by the Tigers early this week with Detroit eating his $14M dollar contract. I am not sure what logical team would want him, but I'll go through the due diligence with the Mets.

Personally, he fits everything we are looking for, power right handed bat. However, Sheffield brings a lot of baggage, he is a me guy and I cannot see him being a team player as a reserve on the Mets. Think about it, Jimmy Leyland loves Sheffield, so if the Tigers are just going to release him and eat up such a large amount, that proves he is just too much of a malcontent.

I say, let him hit #500 somewhere else and just go away with Barry Bonds somewhere and trade steroids stories. The only connection I ever want him to have to the Mets is that his uncle is Doc Gooden.

The idea however is interesting, I've heard some folks say for league minimum they'd sign him since he's making his money from Detroit.

I would love to hear fellow Met fans take as to why or why not.

Would you sign Gary Sheffield????
